Feeling better

I’m out!

I’m starting to feel much better. My mouth and digestive system have been my main issues. I haven’t been able to keep one bite of food down and it’s been very frustrating. Today, I am going to give it another shot. All of my blood counts are in a good enough range that I can go home, however if I can’t eat on my own then I have to stay here until I can. I’m doing everything I can at this point to prove to the doctors that I can function on my own. They have been taking me off each of my antibiotics and I think I am only on one now. I am still being fed intravenously and want them to stop that as soon as possible. That’s the one thing that is holding me back.

Therefore, my mother is going to go pick up some McDonald’s. I typically don’t eat at McDonald’s, but I figured it would be a good stress test…that if I can hold McDonald’s down, then I should be able to hold anything down. Smile I imagine that my stomach is probably the size of an apple right now so I am only going to try eating a cheeseburger or something. I don’t want to push it too hard.

My mouth is still full of this thick slimy mucous stuff. I think it is caused by some of the anti-biotics I was on. But now that they have stopped the antibiotics, hopefully that will start clearing up as well. I am constantly spitting this stuff up.

Because I haven’t been able to keep food down this entire month, I haven’t gone to the bathroom! So that’s another one of those things that the doctors want to see me do before I leave.

I’m totally pumped about getting out of here though. Everyday in this hospital seems like an eternity. It will be so nice to get out of here and live at my own place. Granted, I will still have to come back to the hospital 2-3 times per week for checkups and stuff…but still. Sleeping in my own bed…AHHH!!!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

Well I just attempted to eat the McDonald’s, and it tasted horrible. My taste buds are so out of whack from all of the drugs they have been giving me that nothing tastes the way it should. Needless to say, I did not eat the entire burger. It hurt a little bit to open my mouth the entire way from my mouth sores and such, but it tasted just absolutely terrible and nothing like a McDonald’s burger SHOULD taste. I also did not puke up the little bit that I did choose to eat so that is good.

Anyways, I’m feeling much better and something tells me they aren’t going to let me go for at least another couple of days. I wish you all the best and thank you all so very much for all of the support you have given me. There’s no way I would have handled this past month’s treatment as well as I have if it weren’t for all of you.

Love

Eric
