Another great way to help our cause is to join the marrow registry through Be The Match® at www.bethematch.org. Getting as many people to sign up as possible was the first thing Eric had on his Bucket List, which is still an ongoing mission to this day. Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma depend on the registry in order to find a match to save their life. When you join the registry, a registration kit will be mailed to you to give a swab of cheek cells. The tissue type you provide will be sampled and used to match you to patients. If a doctor selects you as a match for a patient, you may be asked to donate marrow or cells from circulating blood (called PBSC donation). In a single day, you can become somebody’s hero, and the procedure is virtually painless!
You can help Be The Match® bring hope to every family. The total cost to add a new member to the registry is about $100. While funding has been for some of these costs, contributions are still needed from individuals and organizations to help create the opportunity for more people to join the registry. Donate to the Be the Match® organization and register yourself at www.bethematch.org today! Then contact us to let us know and we’ll have your name added to the list below!
