Spinal tap tomorrow…ugh.

Headache blah…

This is Mary, Eric’s mom. I am writing this, as Eric is not up to it and has asked me to send out a little update for today. What a day it was…The spinal tap was done a little after noon and it was much, much worse than anticipated. I stood by and took a few pictures and offered what support I could. Unfortunately, the first doctor was unable to achieve his goal in finding the spinal fluid and had to call in for reinforcements.

The second doctor made a second puncture in his spine and out dripped the fluid. They collected a couple tubes for cytology and injected a combination of Cytarabine and Hydro cortisone into his spine to treat his brain for any possible leukemia cells. Eric describes the experience as being worse than the bone marrow biopsy he had last Wednesday. From a mother’s point of view I cannot even describe the horrible pain I felt watching him go through this. I am glad that it is behind him(literally)!

Another day has come to an end and we can only pray that it gets better from here. Eric is the most inspiring person I have ever met. His strength and courage, through this ordeal, is absolutely amazing and I am so very proud of him. He never fails to thank everyone who does something for him. The nurses who draw blood at 12:00 A.M. always get a “thank you,” the person who drops off and picks up his food tray never leaves without hearing “thanks,” from Eric. The cleaning lady was here the other day and we were just chatting with her, as she was finishing up with the floor Eric says “Thank you for everything you do for me.” She turned around and looked at me with a big smile on her face and said “you did okay with that boy.” I couldn’t agree more!

Good Night everyone, thank you for the prayers and support. Our gratitude goes beyond words.
