It's time we finally start announcing this year's L.I.F.E. Survivor Grant recipients. Meet 25-year-old Sergeant Ian Schisel, a 6-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from Manitowoc, WI. Ian is also a husband, and father to their 1-year-old son.

As a Marine, Ian was a bulk JP-8 fuel specialist, and at the end of his commitment this past year, was diagnosed with B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
He is currently in remission, and in the middle of what is known as “delayed intensification”. This month, he will begin a maintenance phase of chemotherapy that will last for up to another 2 years. Unfortunately, Ian’s cancer has kept him out of work, and he has not received a paycheck in over 6 months.

With the help of our donors and fundraisers, we were able to send Ian and his family some money to help them with medical and daily expenses, along with the classic L.I.F.E. t-shirt and wristband. A sincere thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen.

When we spoke with him over the phone in early July, we randomly started talking about music, and he mentioned to us that his favorite band was Ghost, a grammy award-winning Swedish heavy metal band. Checking the concert calendar, we saw they would be touring in his home state on August 12th. We made some calls and sent some messages to 102.9 The HOG, the local radio station sponsoring the show, in Milwaukee. They responded in kind with 2 free PIT tickets, right up front and center, for both Ian and his wife to attend!! We hope you enjoyed the show, Ian!

More stories of 2023 Survivor Grant Recipients will be announced very soon.

Today, Patty Blum, the physical education teacher at Hortonville Elementary School met with L.I.F.E. to present us with a check for $3,000 through their Game ON! Fundraiser. a program that “empowers their students to use their awesomeness to help others by creating an unstoppable movement of positivity, happiness, friendship and fun!” It helps the students understand the importance of giving back to the community. September is #bloodcancerawarenessmonth ! If you’ve ever thought about joining the @bethematch Bone Marrow Registry, Eric made a video with some reasons why you should.

We’ve come a long way! The last statistic I heard, 75% of matched donors will be donating stem cells, not bone marrow. We have members of this team with first hand experience who can answer any questions you have about what that looks like. The sad truth, they’ve have to revise the process to join the registry because too many matched donors on that list decline to follow through. So if you’re thinking about it, but you’re not committed, please don’t sign up. There’s nothing more soul crushing than being gifted a glimpse of hope only to find out your match isn’t willing to donate. You are likely that person’s only chance of survival.

If you sign up or have previously, please let us know! We’d love to publish your name to our L.I.F.E. Marrow Team! 🧡🩸🎗

“It would be a lot better situation for a lot of people if there were more people on that list.”

Love to you all!

Hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years since Eric left us. Today not only marks his birthday, but it's also the day that we announce each year the recipient(s) of the annual L.I.F.E. Survivor Grant.

To anyone that has donated to the organization this past year, thank you so much for helping to L.I.F.E. going! Please consider a donation by clicking the following link: https://givetolife.org/donate/ Thanks to your generosity, we are able to help not one, but FOUR, very deserving cancer patients this year who desperately need the help!

Meet Jaimylee Buss, a 26-year-old mother from Readstown, WI. With 2 small children at home, Jaimy was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ATLL) in February of this year. She is currently in remission, and this Friday 7/22 she will undergo a bone marrow transplant. Good luck Jaimy, we're all pulling for you!!

Side note - it is difficult and rare for cancer patients to find a match in the bone marrow registry, so if you haven't registered yet, and are between the age of 18 and 35, please learn how at https://givetolife.org/team-life/marrow-team/

We will be announcing the other 3 recipients very soon!
