• Created in honor of Eric McLean, the Leukemia Ironman Fundraiser for Eric (L.I.F.E.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to cancer survivorship by providing assistance to cancer patients in need, scholarship programs, and donating to cancer research laboratories. Meet Ryan Igielski - a Waukesha, WI native who used to work with Eric at Harley-Davidson.  Ryan contacted us back in June of this year to see how he could become apart of Team LIFE.  In his words "I worked on the same team with Eric at H-D so L.I.F.E. has always been very near and dear to my heart. I enjoy running and get a couple half marathons in per year along with a few other races. I ran the Madison Half over Memorial Day weekend and saw a Give to Life shirt out there and it gave me the idea to check into the idea/possibility of being able to run for a purpose. I've mostly just done running for my own personal enjoyment, but I'd love to represent a good cause along the way if I had the chance."  Ryan has set a personal goal of raising $5,000 for L.I.F.E. by the time he reaches his last race on November 2nd.  Since that day he's made considerable progress towards that goal, and has raced in a 5k, a 5 miler, and a half marathon.  This Sunday October 6th he will be competing in the 33rd Annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon.  For anyone in the Milwaukee area possibly wanting to cheer Ryan on - the race will start at 7:30am at Grafton High School and will head south along the lakeshore towards downtown Milwaukee and back.

L.I.F.E. donates an additional $15,000 to the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research

On September 19th, 2013 - Eric's parents, brother, and nephew met with Dr. Zhang and Dr. Shull at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer research, where a novel leukemia research study is being conducted that has been dedicated to Eric.  You may recall that back in 2009, Eric made a similar trip to the lab and was able to give them $10,000 towards their efforts.  (Click here to read that article).  Dr. Zhang is planning to publish their results very soon, and we can tell you that they are nothing short of amazing.  Their work has been very long and meticulous.  We will report more on this as soon as it becomes available!

Well, this time the researchers were presented with a check for $15,000!  Funds came from donations this year towards Mike's Ironman, as well as donations that came in when Eric aired his final video  Thank you so much for your enduring support, this is all made possible by you.

8/23/2013 marks 1 year since Eric's tragic passing

August 23, 2013 - Today marks 1 year already since the tragic passing of our beloved Eric McLean.  It is also his older brother Mike's 31st birthday, who is eagerly trying to raise money for a leukemia research study that has been dedicated to Eric, at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research in Madison, WI.

Please consider helping to honor Eric's fight, and celebrate Mike's birthday wish, by donating to the research study.  Anyone that donates $25 or more will have their name written on an article of clothing that Mike will wear at the Ironman Wisconsin on Sunday September 8th, 2013.

  • The reason that these years have been the best is that I think that I might have had a somewhat positive impact on your lives and perhaps your understanding of what cancer is and what it can do, to both those of us that it has personally attacked and those of us who know someone who is going through it. -Eric McLean
