Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!

December 15, 2009 - Eric, Mike, and Mary will be visiting Pewaukee Lake Elementary School this coming Monday. Lindsay Draeger, a Kindergarten teacher there, and her students have been very supportive of Eric and are planning to make a donation to L.I.F.E. with money that they have raised!  As with all donations, 100% of it will go towards cancer research.  Thank you so much!

We also wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays! Eric will probably post a new video soon, but this past weekend he and his girlfriend Cari went to visit New York City, something Eric has always wanted to do. By mere coincidence, Mike had reserved a flight to go out there on the exact same weekend to visit friends.  So they all met up and went to see the Statue of Liberty together, and what do you know, Mike and Eric also ended up on the same flight home!

Stay warm and Go Packers!

L.I.F.E. Update!

Hi everyone,

We've got some super cool news to report.  News that I don't think anyone could've predicted.  Eric's bone marrow biopsy last week, and it is still clean!  And just last week he was able to return to work!!  He seriously couldn't be happier, you've got to see it for yourself - he's all smiles in his latest Confessions Video - #40.   He just posted it tonight. http://www.facebook.com/l/94f23;givetolife.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=265:erics-confessions-40&catid=38:blog&Itemid=66

It's a miracle really.  I'm absolutely certain that all of the the support and love he received had a big role in all of this.  It is so wonderful watching that huge grin of his in that latest video.  He's the happiest man alive, giddy that he just able to work.  Hahah, I love it.  My favorite line, "If anyone from Harley out there is watching this tonight, or tomorrow, or whenever, I'll see you at work!"  :)

L.I.F.E. is about to take a big step in helping to pay it forward to other families out there.  Eric, my family, and myself will spend the rest of our lives helping to pay forward the same favors that were paid to him.  We'd like to reach out and help as many other families and people out there as possible.

Beginning in just a couple of months, we'll be entered into a charity challenge in which I'll be in a contest to raise as much money as possible for L.I.F.E. before the Ironman Wisconsin 2010 this September.  There will be many other people also raising money for their own charities.  The person to raise the most money will receive an additional $10,000 donation from the Janus corporation.  The competition has not started for me yet, but when it does I'm going to need some serious help spreading the word.

With the money we raise, we'd like to build a scholarship fund, help families in need, as well as donating towards research.

We'll keep you posted!

Love you all,

The McLean Family

Happy New Year!

As the new year rolls around, we look back and reflect on everything that happened in 2009, and realize it's been one wild ride!  Thanks to your support, we've been able to stay very positive throughout it all.  So we'd like to wish everyone the very best this coming year, a very healthy and happy 2010.  Eric posted his latest video #38 last night, here's the link if you'd like to watch it.  http://www.facebook.com/l/37229;www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHhtJriM_nE

LIFE is a 100% non-profit organization that now has the ability to give the money raised to a local, needy individual affected by cancer, aresearch lab, and even scholarships. The idea is that it will be given to a visible cause, a real person or family.  All of the money we raise is being placed into an account, and right now the total is at $4,128.61.  The money will soon be placed into a mutual fund where it can sustain itself by growing on its own, all while we are still receiving more donations.  This way the organization will continue to give to people that need it years and years from now.  Please consider being apart of this special cause in the coming year!

On Wednesday of this week, Eric went to another check-up appointment in Milwaukee, and everything still seems to be going ok.  It seems likely that Dr. Bredison will perform another DLI (Donor Lymphocyte Infusion) procedure very soon, one 5 times as strong as the last one, to help induce Graft vs. Host Disease in hopes that a Graft vs. Leukemia effect also develops to fight off the cancer cells that are still there.  We will keep you posted!  In the meantime, Eric will be making the move back to Milwaukee and eagerly returning to work at Harley Davidson!  I am so glad to see him going back to a bit normalcy, go Eric!

On February 6th, in an effort to spread awareness even further of LIFE's mission, I will be racing in the Rocky Raccoon 100 - a 100 mile marathon trail race through the woods of Texas.  It is a solo effort to be completed in one stretch.  I'll be wearing my LIFE jersey and racing alongside Chris Clausen, the same guy that was on Team LIFE triathlon relay with me back in August.  We are self-funded, and we've been training hard through the cold and the snow to get enough miles on their legs to withstand the grueling distance.  Wish us luck!

On December 21, Eric, Mike, Mary, and Larry Hisle visited Lindsay Draeger's elementary class in Pewaukee, WI.  The children raised atotal of $800 for LIFE, sang us Christmas carols, and made us cookies.  Eric read to them How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  It was a very inspiring to watch, there are videos of the entire experience on our YouTube channel at http://www.facebook.com/l/37229;www.youtube.com/donate2life#p/c/5F289E09AFE9C247

On December 30, Milwaukee Brewer Pitcher All-Star, MVP, and Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Sheets chatted with Eric over Facebook, signed our guestbook, and donated $250 to the organization (and yes it was the real Ben Sheets).  Shortly after, the Curtis Waltz family, donated $500!  We have gotten a ton of support through donations these past two weeks, it has been absolutely incredible.  The day is coming when we will have enough to pay it forward in a really big way.  It is going to be an awesome sight, thank you for helping to make this possible!

Happy New Year again!

  • The reason that these years have been the best is that I think that I might have had a somewhat positive impact on your lives and perhaps your understanding of what cancer is and what it can do, to both those of us that it has personally attacked and those of us who know someone who is going through it. -Eric McLean
  • I just want children to be left with a better life than what I was left with," he said. "I want them to experience the feeling I had in my life when I realized that I really mattered.

  • Realistically, I have two more Olympic cycles in me. I'm not going to let this beat me.  I've gained a lot of strength from you guys, if Eric can fight 5 times over I can overcome this one year of setbacks.
